Outpatient Interventional Radiology Center
Urology of Indiana offers Interventional Radiology, a leading-edge initiative in the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH, also known as enlarged prostate). This treatment is an alternative to traditional open surgery for BPH.
Interventional radiology (known as IR) is a medical specialty that performs minimally invasive treatments using radiologic imaging for procedure guidance. Interventional radiology treatments have become the primary method of care for a variety of conditions such as BPH. IR treatments can offer less risk, less pain and shorter recovery time compared to traditional surgery.
Interventional radiology is an alternative to traditional open surgery for BPH. Prostate Artery Embolization, or PAE, enables our physicians to use the least invasive techniques with less risk, less pain and faster overall patient recovery time. Our new outpatient Urology of Indiana Interventional Radiology Center in Fishers, Indiana serves our patients in Indianapolis and surrounding areas as well as across Central Indiana.
IR procedures are performed by Interventional Radiologists – physicians that are experts at reading and interpreting x-rays, ultrasound, CTs, MRIs and other forms of medical imaging. They use x-ray, CT, MRI or other imaging guidance to navigate small instruments through blood vessels and organs to treat a variety of diseases and conditions.
The advantages of minimally invasive IR techniques include:
- Office based and minimally invasive
- Home the same day
- Quicker recovery / return to work
- Low complication risks
- General anesthesia not needed
- Greater comfort
The effectiveness of treatment may be better than with traditional treatments. IR is particularly relevant for patients who are in frail health or who have undergone numerous surgeries.
