Low Testosterone (Low “T”)
If you’re a male experiencing low energy, excessive fatigue, trouble losing weight, reduced sex drive or sexual dysfunction, you could have Low Testosterone, or Low T .
Testosterone is a male sex hormone that regulates sexual development and fertility. If you’re a male experiencing low energy, excessive fatigue, trouble losing weight, reduced sex drive or sexual dysfunction, you could have Low Testosterone, or Low T. This is a medical condition that affects millions of men in the U.S. Low Testosterone is nothing to be ashamed about, and nearly half of men over age 80 have this condition.
Unlike other men’s clinics, our Men’s Health Center team has a comprehensive program for Low T testing and treatment. A member of our team will work together with you to determine a treatment plan that is appropriate for your individual situation.
While it’s natural for testosterone levels to decrease as you age, there are other factors that can affect testosterone levels:
- Obesity
- Certain medications
- Trauma or infection in the testes
- Chemotherapy and radiation treatments
- Certain medical conditions and diseases
Symptoms
Low T symptoms can include:
- Decreased sexual desire
- Erectile dysfunction
- Fatigue
- Loss of body hair
- Weight gain
- Decrease in lean muscle mass
- Depression
If you think you may be experiencing Low Testosterone symptoms, our Men’s Health Center team will diagnose and treat your condition with care and professionalism. We offer a large range of short (daily/weekly) and long-term (monthly/quarterly) therapies that other men’s clinics do not.
Our providers will ask detailed questions about your symptoms and conduct a thorough physical exam.
Specific testing may then be performed to determine the cause of the low testosterone:
- Testosterone blood level test
- Luteinizing hormone blood test
- Prolactin blood test
There are a variety of successful therapies for Low T. Treatment will be dependent on your specific situation.
Treatments can include:
- Hormone replacement pellets placed beneath the skin
- Testosterone injections
- Topical gels applied to the skin
- Oral tablets
While testosterone therapy is generally considered to be safe, it does carry potential side effects. Your Urology of Indiana provider will discuss these with you and provide close monitoring with regular visits to our office.
